Federal judge scuppers Alaska tribe’s plan to open a small casino

In the American state of Alaska and a federal judge has reportedly ruled against an effort by the Native Village of Eklutna to bring a small casino to tribal lands located around 20 miles north of downtown Anchorage.

According to a Thursday report from the Anchorage Daily News, Alaska has only one formal tribal reservation, the Metlakatla Indian Community on sparsely populated Annette Island, with the remainder of its indigenous lands being held in federal trust but governed under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971. The source detailed that this piece of legislation gave formal ownership of some 16,000 smaller family allotments such as the Native Village of Eklutna to corporations tasked with responsibly representing aboriginal shareholders.

Detrimental determination:

The newspaper reported that this state of affairs led the United States Department of the Interior to rule in 2018 that the Native Village of Eklutna did not qualify as ‘Indian lands’ under the precepts of 1988’s Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) and was therefore prohibited from opening a Class III casino offering slots as well as games such as blackjack, roulette and keno. European Football League and non-league clubs request football gambling advertising ban

In an odd turn of events this week, it was revealed that a group of 20 European Football League (EFL) and non-league clubs wrote a letter to the UK government asking for a ban on advertising within the sport of football when it comes to gambling. Laws regarding gambling are under review, and ministers are working on publishing any reforms before the Easter holiday. Banning front-of-shirt sponsorships for gambling companies is currently being considered.

Senior officials for the EFL have requested that the rule change not take place, stating the clubs need the income from gambling sponsorships to stay afloat. Yet, this group of football teams says that the money is not needed, and they want the ban to go through so the clubs can prove that the sport is not dependent on revenues from gambling advertising.

Details of the Letter

The letter was sent in by several teams, including Forest Green, Luton, and Tranmere. According to the Daily Mail, the letter was seen by Sportsmail and said that owners, directors, and executives of the football clubs had seen the ‘harmful growth of gambling sponsorship and advertising’ in the sport. Including how it negatively…

3 months after Blizzard’s president sank WoW players’ hopes of a swashbuckling adventure with the words ‘No pirates’, roadmap suggests- Yes, yes pirates-

World of Warcraft revealed its roadmaps for both retail and Classic yesterday, and while there’s plenty of exciting news—including a confirmed Summer release window for The War Within—one particular stop on the road hit me like a cannon full of grapeshot. A black flag with a skull and crossbones.

So, some context: back in September, WoW players were hoisting the mainsails in preparation for a pirate-themed expansion. This was due to a cosmetic item on the store (which Blizzard have used to foreshadow expansions previously, such as with the Dragon Pack) and an in-game book called “Return of the Nightsquall.”

Added to The Forbidden Reach zone in Dragonflight Patch 10.0.7, this book can be found on the Irontide Ship on the northern shore of the island, via an interactable called “Pirate Proclamation”. It proclaims that “The Nightsquall has returned!” and that he’s building the “biggest fleet the world has ever known.” It foreshadows an alliance of Irontide, Defias, Bloodsail, and Freebooter pirates embarking on a raid to the Dragon Isles.

Then, president of Blizzard Mike Ybarra replied to a curious fan with the words “no pirates” and that, it would see…

Russia gears up to ban Discord ‘in the coming days’

The Russian authorities have been on something of a digital crusade in recent years: one based on sovereignty, rather than morality. The latest target, as reported by the Russian business daily Kommersant, is the hugely popular messaging platform Discord, which is estimated to have between 30-40 million users in the country and account for around 4% of the app’s traffic.

The opening salvo has already been fired. The Russian state media regulator Roskomnadzor has issued five separate rulings relating to Discord since September 20, which can all now be used as justification for an upcoming ban. Say what you will about authoritarian regimes, but they love their bureaucracy.

Kommersant quotes an anonymous official source as saying the ban is being considered for violations of Russian law: needless to say, these violations have not been detailed, nor are likely to be. They go on to say the ban may happen “in the coming days”.

Russian users have also complained about periodic outages on Discord over September, with many resorting to VPNs, and both the web and mobile versions of the platform affected.

Should the ban become a reality, the big losers will…

Stressing out waiting for Dragon Age- The Veilguard to download- Here’s some Dragon Age ASMR to help mellow your mood

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is out today, and if you find yourself stressed and aggravated because you’re waiting for it to download—no preload on PC!—and it’s going so slow and all your friends are going to be hours ahead of you by the time you get into it, I have just the thing to help you chill out and take the edge off: Dragon Age ASMR.

I was first introduced to the concept of ASMR by former PC Gamer editor James Davenport, the man who—among other things—encouraged PC Gamer readers to “watch people peel plastic film off new PC parts because you deserve it.” The acronym stands for autonomous sensory meridian response, and it’s essentially a physiological reaction to audio stimuli, most commonly produced by Twitch streamers whispering into, or rubbing things on, their microphones.

Gaming ASMR is a relatively rare thing, but it’s been around for a while. We took a dive into the thriving Dark Souls ASMR scene all the way back in 2018, and a few years later we encountered Sims ASMR and then Stardew Valley ASMR. More recently GSC Game World shared some Stalker 2 ASMR featuring the sounds of the …
